Apple has confirmed that the Apple iPad Pro Lightning port is USB 3.0 compatible. The device was released earlier this month and the tear-down by iFixit revealed a USB 3.0 controller on the iPad Pro. Now, Apple has made sure that the Lightning port will support the new USB standards. This feature was not advertised by the company at the beginning.
The fact that the iPad Pro will support the USB 3.0 standard means that it will support transfer speed of up-to 5 Gbps, which is more than 10 times faster than the USB 2.0.
The USB 3.0 is the third major version of the USB. It features a new transfer mode i.e super-speed which as mentioned earlier transfers data up-to 5 Gbps. The USB 3.0 connectors can be distinguished from their previous version (USB 2.0) by their blue colour coding of the plugs and also by the initials SS.

The USB 2.0 only had a transfer speed of about 480 Mbps, so the USB 3.0 seems to be a massive improvement to it. The thing to note is that you only get a standard USB 2.0 cable with the purchase of the iPad Pro, for the 3.0 version, you will have to buy a separate USB 3.0 adaptor to use the feature. But such an adaptor is not available yet so, you will have to wait some time to use the new feature.
